Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve near Heidelberg, South Africa, 10.1.06 Is it still V. karroo?

Below a photo November 17th, 2015 from Mashovhela (Morning Sun Nature Reserve) north of Louis Trichard, Province Limpopo (Soutpansberge). It shows the thickened thorns, which are rarely found in this species.
